Whisky Tasting

Join us in the Club for a Whisky Tasting!

Michael Forbes Smith will deliver an informative and entertaining presentation on the topic, in the library. To add to your enjoyment you will be able to sample six fine whiskies. 

Tickets for the whisky tasting will cost £12. Tickets for supper should be purchased online (link below) or at the bar, as usual.

Travels with Tilman. Speaker: Bob Comlay

Mountaineer, navigator and arguably the finest travel writer of the 20th century, Bill Tilman’s climbing and sailing achievements rank amongst the greatest in the fields of 20th century mountaineering and deep sea cruising.

Bob Comlay made two Greenland voyages with him, in 1970 and 1971.  The talks are illustrated with more than 100 photographs from his private collection and a number of private letters from his friendship which endured until Tilman’s loss at sea in 1977.

Addicted to Adventure. Speaker Bob Shepton

An ordained minister, Bob Shepton spends most of his time sailing into the Arctic and making first ascents of inaccessible mountains. No tea parties for this vicar.

Winner of the 2013 Yachtsman of the Year Award, Bob is an old-school adventurer - as well as a Royal Marines officer, a Reverend in London's East End, and a school chaplain!

When not tackling the Northwest Passage or ski-traversing new routes in the Arctic, he lives with his wife in Oban, Scotland, with family and grandchildren nearby.

Michael Emmett comes from a family whose ties with commercial sailing on the River Blackwater can be traced back seven generations.

He was introduced to sailing on his father's boat Topsy and later shipped aboard the Claydon family's fishing smacks. One of these he bought from them when just fifteen years of age.

In 1980 he had Ostrea Rose built for his business- the Maldon Oyster Fishery. 1999 saw the sale of Ostrea Rose and the building of her replacement Black Rose.

Special guest Tim Ryan HPO Waterford will speak on the delights of the Shannon River Cruise, 5-13 September2015. This is a great opportunity to get first hand information on the trip. Don't forget we will benefit from 2014 prices if we book before year end!

Ideas of sailing destinations / venues will be very welcome, so do come along ready to share your thoughts.
