The Eastern Mediterranean Yacht Rally
I have just heard from Hasan Kacmaz, HPO Lycian Coast, Turkey - he is the founder of this Rally – that he has just returned from the 2012 Rally. A maximum of 80 yachts and around 250 sailors from nearly 15-18 countries participate every year and follows the route of this year’s Rally starting in Istanbul, along the south coast to Alanya, over to Girne, Northern Cyprus, onwards to Lebanon, Israel, Egypt finishing back in Israel. Local authorities have now realised that yachting tourism has reached their doorstep. The Rally has encouraged communities to provide better services, such as secure berths, showers, washrooms, electrical and water connections. New marinas are under construction at the ports of Kumkuyu, Gazipasa and a new marina is nearly complete at Tartous in Syria, but Syria has been avoided for the past 2 years due to continued unsettled conditions.
Over the past 33 years, Hasan has been involved with marinas in Turkey along the Lycian Coast and is at present in the group designing a big marina in Antalya city which will be completed in 2016. He is in contact with Alanya, Kas, Kemer, Antalya, Mersin Marinas in Turkey and also with Delta & Karpas Gate Marinas in northern Cyprus. Members of the LSC can always call or email him whilst in Turkish waters and he can talk to the people in different parts of Turkey if help is needed. Tel: 00 90 242 232 66 80 email: firstname.lastname@example.org. He has sent a photo of his yacht IBIS II.
He will be over to London again in January for the London Boat Show on the Turkish Stand and joining us for the Honorary Port Officer’s dinner on 15 January 2013.
