Basic ropework course | Little Ship Club

Learn basic ropework at the Little Ship Club

The basic ropework course provides practical rope handling and knot techniques in the convivial atmosphere of the Little Ship Club in London.

This basic rope handling and knots course throws in a good deal practical seamanship and a little useful theory, lubricated with our traditional offer of a glass of wine.

What’s covered

The course is non-nonsense and provides what is necessary to the modern cruiser.

The course begins with coiling a rope and finishes with splicing an eye in three-strand material.

Along the way, a carefully-selected minimal set of knots and techniques is taught.

The course includes an illustrated handbook and a “bosun’s bag”, containing tools and practice materials. It runs for a total of six hours, spread over three weekday evenings.

Places are generally limited to eight students at a time so that personal instruction and an opportunity to practice are guaranteed. A special version of this course is delivered to the Royal Navy.

Our basic ropework course is an enjoyable bridge between the RYA Day Skipper Shorebased course and the RYA Day Skipper Practical course
