The Saints’ Cruise – North Brittany,   9 – 16 July 2016

Although this year’s North Brittany cruise is billed as a “Follow-On” cruise from the joint Little Ship Club/Corinthian rally from 2-9 July, it is also a week long Club cruise which all members can join at any point along the route.

If you are not participating in the LSC/Corinthian rally you can catch up with us at St Helier, Jersey, on 9 July and join us in savouring the delights of the lovely North Brittany towns of St Quay Portrieux, Dahouet, St Cast Le Guildo and St Malo.

St Malo today is a large and bustling town, with all the modern accoutrements, industrial enterprises and a large and active commercial port.  It is steeped in its maritime history reflected in the fascinating ancient walled city which was the refuge of pirates and brigands during the 11th and 12th centuries. It is the key destination for our club cruise this summer, open to all LSC members and it is hoped that many will join us.  Although it follows on from the joint cruise of LSC members and those from the Corinthians, the LSC’s sister club in the US, it is a separate event.  Please join us.

This cruise starts from St Helier, Jersey, where boats and crews will gather on Saturday, 9 July after crew changes, where necessary, for those involved in the LSC/Corinthian cruise.  From Jersey the LSC fleet will head off on a 46 mile sail to St Quay Portrieux and a marina with 24 hour access. From there the idea is to meander along the north Brittany coast, with short distance sails, to Dahouet (11 nm), a delightful little port rarely visited because of its narrow access and tidal constraints, to St Cast le Guildo (22 nm) a relatively new marina (2009) with 24 hour access, and then to St Malo (12 nm), before heading home with a 54 nm leg to St Peter Port, Guernsey.

In St Malo a cruise dinner is booked at the Hotel Chateaubriand in the Old City on 13 July (cost €50 a head, including wine), and we will join members of the St Malo YC (Societe de la Baie de Saint Malo) and with crews participating in the Muscadet regatta, for a Bastille Day party, with fireworks, on 14 July. Cost about €20 a head.

Finally, we are contemplating holding a farewell drinks and supper party at Guernsey Yacht Club, but yet to be confirmed and if people want it.

Please join us.  Book online (available soon), or contact the organiser: Keith Irons - 01256 389 298 / 07885 356 639, keithirons@btinternet.com
