Lymington Rally

We invite new members and shore based trainees to join us for this rally, particularly those that have not yet joined a Little Ship Club rally.

All boat owners are encouraged to participate and if you have space to take any new members or shore based trainees then please contact Jonathan Hague .

Moorings have been booked on the Dan Bran Pontoon and most crews are likely to eat ashore in a local pub or restaurant.

London Waterways Cruise 13th & 14th May

There will be two one day cruises. One on Saturday 13th May from Limehouse to Paddington and the second on Sunday 14th May from Paddington to Limehouse. The cost of each cruise will be £15.

The cruises will take place on board Narrowboat Wee Dram and will start each day at 10:00 with bacon butties prior to departure and finish late afternoon / early ewvening. Lunch on board will also be provided. 

Boating Programme & New Members' evening

The talk will provide a summary of sailing and boating events in 2017 and beyond.

The Club website, the Skippers and Crew system plus further information on how to sign-up for these will be covered. The talk will be of interest to all members but especially to new members. 

During the evening and over supper there will be an opportunity for all new members, skippers and crew to mingle and to start planning their next trip.

Our weekly Tuesday lecture will be given by Mark Flew of Flew Sails. Mark has been running Flewsails for 25 years from a unit in Wicor Marine in the hustle and bustle of Portsmouth Harbour, and will give a talk on 'the variety of sail cloths available and the options to consider when choosing new sails.

We are also delighted that we will have two other special guests this evening: Sir Robin Knox-Johnston will be in attendance to introduce Mike Golding as our new President.

The annual Little Ship Club pilgrimage to Calais over the late May Bank Holiday weekend. 

Organised once again by Norman Hummerstone, MBE and held in conjunction with the Royal Naval Sailing Association.

The details are given below and all times are French Summer Time

On saturday there will be a Beer Call 14:30 to 16:00. In the evening at 19:45 for 20:30 there will be an excellent three course French Dinner with white and red wine at the Cercle Amical Maritime, pleasantly overlooking the harbour.

Rally to St Vaast - Late May Bank Holiday

Once again we are planning a Bank Holiday Rally at the end of May to St Vaast-la-Houge, a small fishing village on the eastern side of the Cotentin peninsula, famous for its seafood especially les huitres. 


The rally will follow similar lines to last year with a pontoon party on Saturday evening and a picnic for Sunday Lunch with supplies from M Gosselin's emporium. Crews will then have the chance to eat at the restaurant of their choosing on Saturday Evening.

West Country Cruise

An informal rally, gathering in Brixham, and providing an opportunity to head west to explore the delights of the West Country.

The plan to leave Brixham on June 17th or 18th with the intention of making Falmouth and Helford before returning to Brixham on or about July 1st.

Sea Survival

The Club has teamed up with Portsmouth Marine Training to run a 2 day RYA Sea Survival Course. The first day, Saturday 17 June, will be held in the library at LSC with Sunday 18 practising climbing into a liferaft in a swimming pool in Portsmouth.

Beating Retreat

The Pinstriped Highlanders – the pipers of the Highland Society of London who play every year for the Highland Ball at the Banqueting House, Whitehall - will beat retreat for the Little Ship Club.  This event will take place by arrangement of our Past Commodore, Michael Forbes Smith, who is one of their members.

Joint Lunch

Since September 2011 the City Livery Club has been very happily based at the Little Ship Club. Seven years on from the first reception held here, the President of the City Livery Club and the Commodore of the Little Ship Club invite you to a joint luncheon to be held at the Club on Tuesday 19 September.

You will be invited to mingle with friends old and new, and we will be mixing up the tables so far as possible between the two Clubs’ members, so that members have a chance to get to know each other and find out more about each others’ interests and experiences.

Thames Trafalgar Race 2017 - save the date

The fifth annual Thames Trafalgar Race will take place on the weekend of Saturday 30th September 2017 and Sunday 1 October 2017.

This two-day stage race gives sailors an opportunity to tackle the fickle tides and winds of the River Thames, starting from Blackwall Reach, near Greenwich and finishing at Erith Yacht Club on day one. After a dinner on Saturday night paying respect to Horatio Lord Nelson and the Battle of Trafalgar, stage two sees the race return upriver to Greenwich.

The Little Ship Club is continuing its tradition in 2017 of holding the south coast end of season dinner at one of the premier Cowes yacht clubs.  This year it is being held at the Isle of Wight clubhouse of the Royal Ocean Racing Club (formerly the Royal Corinthian YC).

In addition to marking the end of the traditional sailing season we will also lhave the fkirst Fast Cruise of the 2017/18 winter season. 

 

 

Whisky Tasting

Michael Forbes Smith will deliver an informative presentation on the topic, in the library. To add to your enjoyment you will be able to sample six fine whiskies.

The bi-annual cruise with the Corinthians will take place from 2nd June  to 9th June, 2018 in Chesapeake Bay, USA.

Berths on the cruise are filling up fast. The date for expressing interest has passed, but some spaces may still be available. If you would like to attend the cruise, please contact Paul Banks (see below).

We aim to charter boats from the Le Boat Company based at Casale on the Sile River in the northern part of the Lagoon in mid-September 2018. At that time the weather should be sunny and the temperature in the mid 20’s.   


There is no better way to appreciate the Venetian architecture than from the water.
