RYA Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore Course

Dates & price:Wednesday evenings 3rd February to 21st April 2010 inclusive and all day on five Saturdays - 13th and 27th February, 13th and 27th March and 10th April. The price is 220, which includes the provision of all course materials, the RYA Navigation Handbook, the RYA Weather Handbook and a buffet lunch on each of the Saturdays.

Content: Navigation, meteorology, collision avoidance, safety and passage planning.

This advanced course is ideal for candidates preparing for the Coastal Skipper Practical Course and those wishing to progress to the Coastal Skipper or Yachtmaster Certificates of Competence. Building on the Day Skipper syllabus, this course covers more advanced skills in coastal and offshore navigation and pilotage by day and night. If you own your own boat or are involved in chartering and wish to progress to more ambitious passage making you will find this course invaluable.

Suggested minimum pre-course experience: Navigation to Day Skipper standard and some practical experience is recommended.

Assumed knowledge: Equivalent to the Day Skipper Shorebased course.

Ability after course: An understanding of the principles of navigating for coastal and offshore passage making.

In addition students will require: Portland or Breton Plotter, Nautical Dividers, 2B pencils and an eraser all of which can be purchased from the Club at the start of the course. The Course Leader may suggest additional reading material.
