Josh Ellis is an enthusiastic “wet weather” pleasure sailor and has been sailing from a very early age.  His early childhood voyages took him from West Wales to West Coast Ireland annually, which nurtured an enjoyment of more challenging sailing conditions.  His professional life (Cyber Security and Fraud prevention) has taken him all around the world, and has given him the chance to sail in places like San Francisco, Windward Isles as well as home in the UK.  Josh is 41, and currently lives in Istanbul and is in London prepping for his YachtMaster Coastal MCA/RYA exams.

In 2012, Josh was visiting the Scilly Isles – to do research of the Ellis family who lived there as far back as the 1750s, and who were in the maritime business.  On the return journey to Brixham, the boat was hit by a freak wave while holed up in Parnvoose Cove, close to the Lizard.  This is his story of events that unfolded, the subsequent rescue by the RNLI and some lessons learned from first-hand experience of a life-threatening situation.
