Cruise the Solent - Friday 21st August to Friday 28th August



(Subject to alteration dependent upon availability of venues, harbours or moorings)

Join us once again in our determined endeavours to free us from the nightmare of the last six Covid months.  We plan a less ambitious cruise this month staying within the Solent area for a week with our battle flag leading the way.  With the lockdown restriction still in place the opportunities to sail further afield are sadly limited.  Booking berths has been extremely difficult this summer and disappointingly expensive but by careful planning we have thus far beaten the system.  The longer the notice we have the better chance of reserving more marina berths than those already booked but we will anchor or pick up mooring buoys where possible.

If you do not have a dinghy, we can easily share with those who have.

Could we please appeal to members with yachts to offer berths to new members looking for sailing experience.


Day 1     Friday 21st August 2020       

Gather at Yarmouth Harbour

Welcome to the Rally

(HW Portsmouth 13.57 BST)

Limited berths have been reserved at Yarmouth Harbour (first rally bookings will get priority) or pick up mooring buoys outside the harbour.

Three-course Dinner at the beautiful Royal Solent Yacht Club - see menu below (also attached on the right as a PDF that you can download) .  When booking please confirm your food choice for each course for each individual by name.  This will enable us to ensure individuals are grouped together or distanced in compliance with Govt Covid rules.

Day 2     Saturday 22nd  August 2020

Layday in Yarmouth

Take a stroll up the River Yar path and lunch at the Red Lion       

Day 3     Sunday 23rd August 2020

Yarmouth to Beaulieu River

(HW Portsmouth 14.35 BST)

Take up mooring buoys between the Beaulieu River Sailing Club and RSYC Gins Farm and mingle with other yachts subject to dinghy availability and Covid regulations. Take your dinghy up to Gins Farm (if open) or land further up the river at Bucklers Hard for refreshments.

Day 4     Monday 24th August 2020

Beaulieu River to Bembridge

(HW Portsmouth 16.29 BST)

A limited number of berths have been reserved at Bembridge Marina so first rally bookings will get priority.

A quiz will be arranged to add interest to your passage

Bring your own meat/fish (wine and salads will be provided) and BBQ at the Marina Terminal Marquee.

Day 5     Tuesday 25th August 2020

Layday in Bembridge

Take the ferry across to Bembridge and perhaps meet our HPO Majorca at the Bembridge Sailing Club or their past Commodore. Both are members of LSC.

Eat on board or join other yachts for shared food.

Day 6     Wednesday 26th August 2020

Bembridge to Chichester Harbour

(HW Portsmouth 05.47 and 18.20 BST)

Have you ever flown a kite at sea? A prize for the best performance.

Pick up moorings at Itchenor or Itchenor Sailing Club.  Eat on board or ashore subject to Covid and availability.

Day 7     Thursday 27th August 2020

Layday at Chichester Harbour moorings

(HW Portsmouth 06.54 and 19.25 BST)

Go ashore from Itchenor for a walk or pub lunch or explore the beautiful Chichester Harbour.

Day 8     Friday 28th August 2020

Chichester to Cowes

(HW Portsmouth 08.08 and 20.37 BST)

Pontoon party at Shepards Wharf Marina hosted by the Commodore

Either eat on board or tables will be reserved for supper at the Island Sailing Club

Day 9     Saturday 29th August 2020

(HW Portsmouth 09.24 BST)

Depart for home ports

Rally Fee - £50.00 per person

The rally fee covers organisation of the rally, a goodie bag, three course dinner at the RSolYC, hire of the BBQ and marquee at Bembridge, wine and salads at the BBQ, and attendance at the Commodore’s Pontoon Party. 

The organisers have made limited reservations at marinas on a first come first served basis, skippers to settle their own marina fees.  Skippers, please book berths directly with the marinas using the forms attached as links on the right for Shepards Wharf, and below for a mooring in Beaulieu River:
