Endeavour is a Leigh on Sea cockle boat. Built in Leigh in 1926, most of her life was spent in harvesting shell fish and catching shrimp and flounders. But in May 1940 she was one of six Leigh fishing boats which sailed to Dunkirk to help in the evacuation of Allied soldiers. Only five boats returned. So Endeavour is a true "Little Ship". Paul Gilson, skipper, and club member Chris Bailey, mate and chair of the committee that looks after this historic boat, will talk about the Leigh boats at Dunkirk; restoring Endeavour from its derelict condition; and the charms and challenges of sailing a wooden fishing boat.
