We are delighted to confirm the third running of our annual fundraising yacht race, for the benefit of the RNLI, is on Sunday 10th May 2026. It would be great if some of your members entered and raised the level of competition!

Last year's race was won by an entry from Thames Estuary YC. They took home the engraved, crystal glass ship's decanter (RRP £400) which was theirs to keep.

Race Details

Following a briefing at 09:30 it's a "Start when you like" race. Skippers should plan to leave in time to reach the mark in Erith Reach to catch the returning tide, and then continue racing back to Greenwich. Positions will be calculated using Elapsed Time and the Byron Handicap.

Free overnight moorings for race entrants will be available on May 9th and 10th. We will also arrange an evening event in the Clubhouse on May 9th. If we can secure a sponsor there may also be some race-branded shirts available for all competitors.

After the Race

The Clubhouse bar will be open and the kitchen will serve snacks and meals. It is a big day in the calender for GY members. We are going to invite Club Commodores (including yours), and all competitors will have the chance to meet members from other clubs. We are also inviting our local Mayor to present trophies, plus representatives of the RNLI and PLA.

Prize giving will start around 16:30, subject to weather conditions on the day and how long it has taken to complete the race. There will be at least two trophies, one for the best finish by a GYC entry, and one for the best finish by a guest entry.
