HMS Warrior, historic warship, Portsmouth

The Little Ship Club is hosting the Corinthians on a cruise of the Solent and Poole Bay. The Solent is arguably the centre of yachting in the UK and although a busy sailing area will provide an enjoyable venue for our American guests as well as those LSC skippers and crew who may already be very familiar with this area. Here is a brief summary of what we have organised.

Saturday 30th June (HW Portsmouth 0828/2005 BST)

  • Boats arrive at Ocean Village marina, Southampton where berths are booked
  • Registration, reception and welcome dinner at Royal Southampton Yacht Club in the marina.

 

Sunday 1st July (HW Portsmouth 0939/2208 BST)

  • Passage race from Southampton to Poole (approx 35M)
  • Berths booked at Poole Town Quay Boathaven
  • Dinner ashore (fish & chips?) or on board

 

Monday 2nd July (HW Portsmouth 1043/2305 BST)

  • Passage race from Poole to Yarmouth (approx 20M)
  • Berths booked on walk ashore pontoon in the harbour
  • Supper sharing aboard – host and guest boats to be identified ahead of time

 

Tuesday 3rd July (HW Portsmouth 1141/2359 BST)

  • Yarmouth to Portsmouth (approx 18M)
  • Fast cruise in western Solent
  • Optional lunch stop in Osborne Bay at anchor or in Cowes, home of the famous Cowes Week Regatta, where there are numerous options
  • Berths booked in Royal Clarence marina Gosport in Portsmouth Harbour
  • Supper ashore (pubs in Gosport or cross to Portsmouth Gunwharf Quays) or on board
     

Wednesday 4th July - lay day (HW Portsmouth 1235/0049 BST)

  • Optional fast cruise round Nab Tower and back in morning
  • Visit to Historic Dock Yard (Victory, Mary Rose Museum etc.), Spinnaker Tower etc.
  • Dinner on HMS Warrior (water taxi arranged from Royal Clarence). Celebrate US Independence (or British Thanksgiving!) on board what was the largest warship afloat when she was built in 1861. Explore the ship with a pre-dinner drink and then enjoy a meal on the gun deck

 

Thursday 5th July (HW Portsmouth 1325 BST)

  • Fast cruise (predicted log) from Portsmouth to Lymington (approx 19M)
  • Berths booked on the harbourmaster’s Dan Bran pontoon
  • Supper ashore (plenty of pubs or yacht clubs) or on board

 

Friday 6th July (HW Portsmouth 1413 BST)

  • Passage from Lymington to Bucklers Hard (Beaulieu River) (approx 10M)
  • Berths booked in Bucklers Hard marina, a short walk from the village and almost at the top of the beautiful and historic Beaulieu River
  • Optional lunch stop in Newtown Creek or visit historic Bucklers Hard village where warships were built in the reign of Henry VIII
  • Final dinner at Beaulieu National Motor Museum (coaches booked for transport). Drinks reception in the “Bond in Motion” exhibition (James Bond cars through the ages) and dinner in the museum hall – a unique setting for our final dinner

Saturday 7th July

  • Boats disperse for home ports or for informal gatherings
