The Ocean Youth Trust has an adult voyage running 6-10 June, starting and finishing in Southampton, with a few spare places – Cost £350pp – a chance for people to sail a 55-tonne yacht operating as a commercial vessel, which might be interesting for anyone to come and see. It’s partly run for people who might be interested in volunteering with us on future voyages, so would be ideal for anyone who wants to come along and see whether that might be something they would like to do. But that’s by no means essential – some people come along just for a fun voyage sailing a bigger vessel than they are used to. Even better if they don’t mind being guinea-pigs for the potential trainee volunteers – sometimes we have a lot of laughs with a group of people pretending to be complete novices with an average age of about 14, some feeling seasick and others with ADHD or similar, while a trainee volunteer has to get everyone organised to hoist the mainsail safely! Our current staff skipper first came to us many years ago in this “guinea-pig” role on an adult voyage...we knew he had a deep understanding of sail training with young people when we saw him putting one rope the wrong way round a winch while getting his ankle tangled in another rope and waiting to see when the trainee watchleader would notice...Anyway, it should be a really nice voyage...hopefully cross-Channel if the weather is kind. A few more people on board would be great. More info and pics of the boat all over the website, but do start here: http://www.oytsouth.org/adult-voyages/voyages-people-over-25.asp.
