The Ronatrust, Speaker: Chris Wolley

The Rona Sailing Project is one of the oldest Sail Training organisations in the UK, established for over 50 years. In that time, they have taken over 20,000 young people from a wide variety of backgrounds to sea. Chris joined the Rona Sailing Project in 1967 'as a boy' and is now a Trustee and the chief instructor.

Cruising New Zealand and Fiji, Speaker: Stuart MacDonald

Stuart MacDonald spent eighteen months cruising New Zealand and Fiji on “Beyond” during his circumnavigation. This presentation with many photographs covers the pleasures and difficulties he experienced during his time in these two great cruising areas.

Lord Mayor's Show Breakfast and Lunch

The Club will open from 08:00hrs for breakfast and buffet lunch on this Ceremonial Day when the Flotilla bringing new Lord Mayor of the City of London passes LSC at approximately 09:30 hours. Everyone can then go to see the full procession returning to LSC for lunch from 13.00 hours.
Make a day of it in London: in the morning watch the Flotilla from LSC Club House, then go to see the show start from the Mansion House, via Cheapside and past St. Paul’s to the Royal Courts of Justice. Then have lunch at the Club then perhaps do some shopping!

Battle of the River Plate, Speaker: Jonathan Harwood

The Battle of the River Plate’ took place in December 1939 off the coast of Uruguay, when three British cruisers – HMS Exeter , Ajax and Achilles – defeated the German pocket battleship ‘Admiral Graf Spee’. Commodore, later Admiral Sir Henry Harwood, was the senior British naval officer commanding the squadron that won this battle. His son, Stephen Harwood and grandson, Jonathan Harwood have put together a presentation that will be delivered by Jonathan and which tells the River Plate story using photos, original documents, film clips and excerpts from letters h

Girl's Guide to the Southern Ocean, Speaker: Linda Crew-Gee

Linda joined Tecla, a traditional Dutch tall ship, for a voyage from Auckland across the Southern Ocean via Cape Horn to the Falkland Islands. The four permanent crew and nine volunteers needed true teamwork, a lot of energy, and occasionally no little nerve. Wild weather, hard physical work and odd mishaps notwithstanding, the voyage fulfilled her friend’s parting blessing: “May the ocean be beautiful, awesome and kind.” Come and hear her inspiring story.

Northbound, Speaker: Jimmy Cornell

Jimmy will describe his sailing northbound into the Arctic, last year's attempt at sailing through the Northwest Passage from west to east, followed by a successful transit of this challenging waterway this summer.
