Virtual Regatta Vendee Globe Winner 16/1/21

The winners arrive at Les Sables d’ Olonne in the Virtual Regatta Vendee Globe

The winner of the Virtual Regatta Vendee Globe Race has returned to Les Sables d’ Olonne on 16/1/2021 after 68 days 22 hours 16 minutes and 4 seconds of intense course setting and sail changing. Within 20 minutes of finishing the course around the world 100 of his 1,056,736 other competitors had finished, 76 of whom were also from France.

Well done to Pete Hampson our very own LSC skipper who finished 5 hours later in 6800th position. Pete’s first reaction was that he is “looking forward to seeing my wife and kids and enjoying a steak frites with a cold beer”. As at 2000 hrs on the same day Golf Bravo Hotel (Greg Hirst) and Goldfinger 1 (LSC President Mike Golding) had 270Nmand 297Nm to go respectively and look like finishing in the top 2 percent. GBR2386L (Andy Ormsby) and Silverita (Martin Sandford) have 520Nm and 528Nm to do in 37,985th and 38,565th positions. A Day at the Races (Barrie Martin) and SolidBear (Leigh Gibson) have yet to cross the equator in 80,475th and 159,878th positions respectively having caught up in the second group.

What is next in terms of the antidote to Lockdown 3? The Club will be running an inshore series to decide the club champion to represent LSC in the RYA Regional eSailing Championships. Do let Barrie Martin know if interested in competing by emailing:
