The cover of Cruising the Maine Coast

UK tethered members will appreaciate our copy of Taft and Rindlaub's wonderful "Cruising Guide to the Maine Coast" - a gift from Clint Springer, who is both a Corinthian and a Little Shipper.

Clint has helpfully highlighted the areas for the 2010 Maine Cruise which is happening over the week starting 31 July

Clint's interest in the sea and sailing the New England coast goes back to the Mayflower. He claims to have 4 roots back to the settlers who crossed on the Mayflower and the family have been in New England ever since (except for short absences for military duty).

He started sailing during the 40's in Narraganset Bay in Beetles and Town Class but really expanded in the late 50/60 's with constant racing in Long Island Sound. Yes, he was a NYC commuter. His Wife Fran claims he was never home weekends during those CT Years. Clint's business career was industrial insurance which brought him across the Atlantic some 75 times through the years. On one trip in 1977 he discovered The Little Ship Club and joined in 1978.

Clint is the architect of the special relationship that we currently enjoy with the Corinthians. He made several attempts to persuade both Clubs to sail together and finally succeeded in 1995 when the Chesapeake Fleet offered 15 places on their boats to members of the little Ship Club for a week's cruise in May. Every place was taken within an hour. We offered them a return invitation to spend a slightly cooler, wetter week in the Solent in 1996. And the connection has gone from strength to strength. We have now settled into the current biannual joint cruise.

In 1971 Clint abandoned the joys of NYC (a Company merger), though he and Fran continue to make frequent trips to Europe, to become a NH sailor in his Tartan 27 searching for the perfect Maine gunk hole. To learn the true meaning of "gunkhole" Clint advise you must join The Corinthians in Maine in 2010
