“Pain is temporary. Pride is forever. Choose your attitude” is what is written on Alex Alley’s 40' yacht Pixel Flyer, which he will soon be using to sail around the world. Some of you may remember Alex from the Club Night talk he did here back in 2009, but for those who don’t, Alex Alley is an avid sailor and motorsport enthusiast who is about to take on the ultimate challenge. On November 1 2018, he will set out to attempt to break the world record for the fastest non-stop solo circumnavigation. And the Little Ship Club will be travelling with him! Sort of...

No, we are not sending Lindsay off on a non-stop circumnavigation just yet! A few years ago, Alex set up a fundraising scheme in which people could purchase pixels on Pixel Flyer for just £25 per pixel. The pixels purchased help to fund equipment for his sailing expeditions. Alex then prints the pixels that have bought on the hull of Pixel Flyer. And with 9 pixels purchased from him, the Little Ship Club’s logo has found its way onto the yacht to accompany him while he’s sailing.

Alex has both broken and set numerous world records now including the Solo Round the Island record and the Length of Britain record, documenting his progress and setting up trackers every step of the way on his website. He is now seeking to break the world record for a non-stop solo circumnavigation set by Chinese sailor Gou Chuan of 137 days 20 hours 1 minute and 57 seconds. He will be leaving on November 1, 2018, and will not be returning until March 2019. As he makes his final preparations, we wish Alex fair winds and following seas!

If you would like to get involved and help Alex to fund equipment and supplies for the circumnavigation, there are still pixel spaces available on his yacht. For more information and to buy pixels of your own, you can visit his website and read his blog.
