Royal Northumberland Yacht Club – News from Blyth
Submitted by admin on Fri, 13/02/2026 - 08:02Greetings from the Royal Northumberland Yacht Club in Blyth. We are a private members’ yacht club located within a commercial harbour and normally enjoy 24/7 access. Today, however, conditions are rather different, with a strong south-easterly, a heavy swell and plenty of sand being stirred up.
Visiting yachts approaching Blyth should first contact Blyth Harbour on Channel 12 to request permission to enter the River Blyth, then proceed to our Visitors’ Pontoon in South Harbour. Please contact the club in advance so we can confirm availability and ensure we can accommodate your requirements.
We provide around 120 members’ moorings, most with access to electricity and water, and have approximately 600 members. The club produces its own Pilot Book covering the coast from the Humber to Rattray Head. It is regularly updated and available to purchase for around £25 plus postage by contacting Kristina at admin@rnyc.org.uk.
Our clubhouse is the former Light Vessel LV50, registered as a historic ship and recognised as one of the best preserved wooden lightships. Maintaining her can feel like painting the Forth Road Bridge, but she remains a unique and welcoming setting for seafaring stories and lively gatherings.
On a personal note, I sail a Moody 336, Wavelength, with my partner and our energetic Collie, Lewis. We have spent several summers exploring Scotland. Lewis has to be secured in the locks of the Caledonian Canal and when approaching moorings, as he is always keen to leap ashore. The rest of the time he patrols the deck in his lifejacket, scanning for dolphins.
We hope some of you will venture north and visit our wonderful county. Please feel free to get in touch if you would like further information at diane.carr@rnyc.org.uk.
