Trinidad & Tobago – quiet waters (for now)
Submitted by Reg Potter on Fri, 13/02/2026 - 08:23I have very little to report, largely because I’ve yet to receive a call from any LSC members — so it’s been peaceful on that front!
The sun is still shining here, although the climate seems increasingly undecided between wet and dry seasons. Sea levels, however, appear quite certain in their direction of travel. In recent years the Trinidad and Tobago Yachting Association (TTYA) has had to raise the jetty tops to keep pace.
After heavy showers, some coastal roads, houses and hotels struggle to drain properly. The reduced fall between sea level and the rivers or drains at high tide makes the water reluctant to move anywhere in a hurry. That said, we’re not about to disappear beneath the waves just yet — there’s plenty of higher ground and hills around to keep us dry for a while longer.
The view from my house remains as good as ever. We continue to have several marinas, boatyards and marine services available, and — for the moment at least — we sit just outside the main hurricane belt. Venezuela is uncomfortably close, though, so we keep our fingers crossed and stay alert.
All remains well here, and visitors would be most welcome.
