As the Jog season starts we are republishing Graham Broadway's notes about life aboard a racing yacht. This weekend whilst JOG runs the first race of their season - the Nab Tower Race. Juno  is running practice sessions. We hope to carry an article from Graham next week about what to do when the rudder drops off.

This was my first Round the Island Race. Alarms were set at 0400hrs so that we could reach Cowes in time for our start at 0550hrs. 

This Spring Bank Holiday I again had a berth on Juno which was entered in the JOG race to Deauville.

 The weather forecast for Friday and Saturday was for SW force 5-6 but turning northerly force 7-8 for Sunday evening and Monday. 

After the January fast cruise, which I thoroughly enjoyed, I decided to charter again for the fast cruise to Yarmouth

I mentioned that I was going to charter a boat for the Beaulieu fast cruise; my very first charter.

I picked the boat up from Hamble Point on Friday afternoon in the pouring rain and gradually the rest of the crew arrived. 

The up and coming fast cruise to Beaulieu will be a whole new experience for me. I am chartering a yacht for the very first time. I started sailing whilst at school in the early '60s and spent the latter years of the '60s, all of the '70s and early '80s racing Merlin Rocket dinghies and Dart catamarans.
