Southerly

Blustery Day

Blustery Day is a 32 (9.75m) Southerly 100, berthed at Fareham in the upper reaches of Portsmouth Harbour.

She has a lifting keel and will float on a damp lawn: with the keel raised by the hydraulic ram she only draws 110 (0.55m). With the keel down she draws a healthy 510 (1.78m) and can give a good account of herself to windward. The lifting keel enables her to creep over a bar both earlier and later than fixed draught yachts. It also means that she can dry out in the few quiet spots that remain on the South Coast. A substantial cast iron ballast plate protects the keel and bottom when grounding.

A pilot house with interior steering and a good-sized galley add to her comforts, as do standing headroom throughout, diesel heating and heads with a shower. She has new electronics (Radar, plotter, VHF and AIS transponder) and new Kemp sails.

Blustery Day is used for coastal pottering, (Solent/Chichester/Poole) and occasional flits across the channel.Much of our sailing is at short notice. All of it is (or is intended to be) comfortable cruising.Novices and experienced crew are equally welcome. Smokers are fine, so long as they are out in the elements. Skipper plus two is comfortable; plus three is possible.

Blustery Day will remain in the water through the winter of 2009/2010

Interested crew should contact Mark Turvey through the site.
