The Skipper’s Pocketbook
Published by Fernhurst Books, this is a skipper’s ‘need to know’ book. It is very succinct on each topic and covers all those topics that may have been learned but could need fast revision e.g Position bearings are from the landmark, or unfamiliar lights at night or sound signals in poor visibility; all this along with advice for thorough preparation, navigation, passage planning, meteorology, safety and emergency procedures. The authors, Basil Mosenthal & Sara Hopkinson, are two pairs of safe hands who between them have sailed the oceans, ex- Royal Navy, Yachtmaster Examiner, Coastguard Rescue Officer and Stationmaster. They provide both clear illustrations and clear guidance.
This is a book I would like very much to find in my Christmas stocking.
