Kent: The Yachtman’s Guide
Published in paperback by New Wave Press
This is an attractive little book which goes some way towards remedying the lack of attention received by this area, which has benefited from neither the development of the South Coast nor the literary prominence of the East Coast. It is a square-format paperback, with many colour photographs of the places mentioned and some advertisements from local service providers which may inspire a visit. The coverage runs from Rye (actually in Sussex but right on Kent’s south-west border), “round the corner” and up the south shore of the London River as far as Dartford Creek. There are chartlets and aerial photographs, pilotage and berthing notes and background information regarding the cultural aspects of the locations. The book would make a pleasant companion to the more formal and necessary Channel and Thames Estuary pilots and a good birthday present for a sailor. Since no price is quoted, we are unable to assess value for money.
