Your First Channel Crossing
As the title says, the book covers medium distance sailing and uses as an example crossing the Channel. It does not matter whether you are heading for Calais or Cherbourg, you need to gather the same information. The book uses the Cherbourg destination for its illustrations. The style or writing is easy and flowing with ample diagrams and photographs.Chapter headings are: forward planning, preparing for the crossing, the navigation plan, setting off, the crossing, arrival and return, pilotage notes, emergencies and finally some useful French words and phrases. The book states that the pilotage notes cover the ports on both sides of the Channel that can be accessed at any state of the tide. But it also covers Treburden, St. Vaast, Ouistreham and Fécamp which I believe you cannot get into at low water.
The book assumes the skipper is at 'Day Skipper' level.
For anyone contemplating their first crossing I consider this book almost to be a MUST BUY.JRT
