Alan has worked for the Thames Barrier for 12 years and as one of the five Forecasters for the last six years. It is an intensive role 24/7/365. Alan has appeared on TV and will be on Channel 5 later this summer. He is a real specialist in our flood alert and warning systems and using social media to communicate with the public. 

The Thames Barrier is a unique flood control structure on the River Thames at Woolwich Reach in East London. It is 520 meters wide and protects London against storm surges and rainfall swelling.. The Thames Barrier is the second largest flood defence barrier in the world after the Oosterscheldekering Barrier in the Netherlands.

He will talk about the organisation, the working of the barrier and the Thames as eco system with all the challenges of a tidal river and keeping people in ta huge urban area safe.
