Club Night - Fishing in the Thames and beyond - Tuesday 17th November 2026

Fisheries: Old and New.
There is more to this topic than meets the eye. The water in the Thames is becoming cleaner and this is attracting more fish. More fish mean more seals which then eat the fish which fishermen would like to catch!
The talk will cover the history of fishing and the environment, on our doorstep, and the new developing fisheries. Our speaker, Paul Gilson, has extensive experience in the world of sailing and fisheries and will weave this into his talk.
Our Speaker - Paul Gilson
Paul is a local fisherman with over 50 years experience and, among other things, Paul:
- has participated on numerous committees on fishing and the environment,
- is often described as an environmentalist,
- is Chairman and now President of the National Federation of Fishermen's Organisations,
- is a Leigh Town Councillor and Freeman of Southend for 26 years,
