Club Night - Penguins, Yachts and a Post Office in Antartica - Tuesday 13th October 2026

Lucy Bruzzone is a Programme Director at the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, within the University of Cambridge. She joined CISL in 2015 from Earthwatch, an international environmental charity, where she headed up their Hong Kong office. She is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. In 2022/23 Lucy took a sabbatical from CISL to join the UK Antarctic Heritage Trust for a season in Antarctica.
Lucy will share her experience as Port Lockroy Base Leader on the tiny Goudier Island. The island is home to the first permanent British scientific research base in Antarctica, a thousand penguins, a post office and a small team of four for the season. She will introduce some of the many yachts and ships which visited and highlight how travelling to Antarctica got her back into sailing.
