A lecture by Club Member Steve Burgess on the work of the Rona Sailing Project and experiences of the training voyages they provide mainly for 14-25 year olds on their four boats.

These have been specially fitted out to provide the most comprehensive on the water experience and range through Lady Shona (a Moody 35 Bilge Keel); Merrilyn an Ocean 62; Rona II an Oyster 68 (which has an excellent record of participation in Tall Ships Races, including transatlantic passages) and largest in the Fleet, Donald Searle an Ocean 75 which has also taken part in Tall Ships Races. The latter vessel, through the Searle Family Trust, also provides therapeutic voyages  for adults with diagnosed mental health issues, as well as adults with mild to severe learning disabilities as part of ‘Gemini Sailing’ voyages.

The wide range of boats and experience will be of great interest to all members including those who have completed their 'on shore' training with LSC. The RSP is always on the look-out for potential volunteers who can commit, at the least, to a refit weekend, an annual familiarisation weekend and a six-day sail training voyage – all with young people to do the heavy lifting!
