The first tall ships race was in 1956. It was meant to a one-off event. But it was so popular it happened again, in 1958. And again in 1960. This is the story of the races, the tall ships that took part and the modern evolution of sail training

Max Mudie has been the professional photographer on Tall Ships Race (his father, the late Colin Mudie, designed the 'Lord Nelson') - www.Tallshipstock.com - He will be accompanied by his wife Lucy who was ASTO manager for 12 years and a Royalist Sailing Master
