Training weekend for those new to boating or on courses - Sat 20th to Sun 21st April 2024
A weekend on Lindisfarne for those new to boating or on a course: 21-22 April
Whilst our Day Skipper and Yachtmaster courses are shore based, there is much in each
syllabus that benefits hugely from getting on a real boat. Whether it is learning to use the
radar, doing engine and boat safety checks, or just going out and identifying a few marks, the
trainees always enjoy a day or two on board. This spring, the first of several training
weekends in the Solent will enable separate groups of trainees, or those new to boating, to
have a day on Lindisfarne, a Nelson 42. Designed originally as a pilot boat, a Nelson is an
ideal boat for training purposes. Apart from the usual, and important, preliminary checks of
engines, radios and safety matters, the trainees will learn to “walk a boat”, and we shall be
doing MOB exercises, how to recover a causalty, blind and radar navigation, and passage
and pilotage plans. Piloting a boat into Portsmouth Harbour or down the Solent at night is
one experience to add to many. No cost, except for a Saturday night meal out somewhere.
We will coincide with the Solent Buoy Challenge
