RYA Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore Shorebased Theory
Why do the course
The RYA Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster course extends the techniques learned on the Dayskipper course. Some aspects of navigation are studied in more detail and additional seamanship subjects are introduced.
The main elements are additional plane navigation, weather theory and a more rigorous treatment of the International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea. Additional subjects are introduced, such as stability, basic weather prediction, more detailed use of almanacs and pilots and regulations for sailing in foreign waters. No mathematical knowledge, other than simple arithmetic, is expected.
The Club offers the same options and timetable for the Yachtmaster course as for Dayskipper. The long version offers more time for absorbing information and practicing techniques.
The short version caters for people with busy lives who cannot commit to the long course.
