Gavignet rescued after dismasting

In an echo of the carnage that depleted the ORMA multi fleets in previous editions Sidney Gavignet's trimaran yacht Oman Air Majan has been dismasted and suffered major damage to the leeward front beam while sailing in the Route du Rhum yacht race.

Gavignet was sailing solo in headwinds of 20 knots when the damage occurred. He activated his distress beacon, put on his survival suit, and awaited rescue. Gavignet was then rescued North East of the Azores.

Christine Monlouis yacht Un Monde Bleu Tout en Vert has also been distmasted and is being towed by the fishing vessel Bara an Aud. Monlouis is onboard the fishing vessel.
