Had trouble exchanging gas cylinders?

Have you struggled to exchange gas cylinders in Europe? The RYA is looking for help to review the practicalities of buying gas in Europe. Whether you found it easy or difficult to replenish your gas supplies whilst boating abroad, they would like to hear from you.
With the exception of Camping Gaz, gas cylinders are generally not exchangeable from company to company or country to country. The European Boating Association (EBA) is undertaking a study to establish whether this is causing boaters a problem. It would like to gather information from across Europe about the types of gas and sizes of bottle that are available.
Please send details of your experiences of buying gas, either good or bad by email to boating.abroad@rya.org.uk or by post to Cruising Department (Gas), RYA House, Ensign Way, Hamble, Southampton SO31 4YA.
For each country you visited they would like to know:
- What you needed to buy (type of fuel, size of bottle etc.)
- Whether you were able to buy this
- Whether you exchanged your cylinder or had the bottle refilled
- If the cost was greater, less or the same as in the UK
- If you had any problems replenishing you gas supplies, please let us know whether this was due to the size of bottle, the connectors or the compatibility of the gas.
- If you had to resort to an alternative, what solution did you find?
The RYA look forward to receiving your information, which together with that compiled by other EBA member organisations will be used to build a picture of the situation boaters are facing across Europe.
