Erith Yacht Club's new clubroom will provide the venue for the Frostbite race pa

The Little Ship Club is joining the Erith, Greenwich and Thurrock Yacht Clubs to promote the Thames Frostbite Race which will take place on the 23rd and 24th February 2013.  The race takes place between Greenwich and Erith, but sometimes, when conditions allow, goes down to Thurrock and then back to Erith. The party on Saturday night is at the Erith Yacht Club’s new building and free moorings and a ferry service are available there. The following day the race is from Erith back to Greenwich.

The race will be run on the Byron Handicap system and it won’t take a qualified navigator to work out that the races go with the tides!

The Little Ship Club will also be promoting and organising with the Erith Yacht Club, a Thames Trafalgar race on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th October 2013. The details of this race will be announced shortly. This event, will follow a similar formula to the Frostbite race and provides an end of season rally for East and South coast members.

The Little Ship Club is hoping there will be good entries from the Club so we can make a good attempt to win the Club Trophy, the best three boats from any Club. There are also opportunities for members to assist with the race management and gain useful race organisation experience. If you wish to gain race organisation experience, please email sailandpower@littleshipclub.co.uk in the first instance.

As an encouragement to boats to come round to the Thames and participate in these events, a special discounted berthing rate has been arranged with St Katharines' Yacht Haven for both races. The berthing fee is reduced to £100 for any boat that had paid its entry fee for the race, and this charge covers two weeks berthing, for a week either side of the race weekend to allow boats to get round the weekend before and return home the weekend after the races.

Further details will appear on the website shortly.

Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, Club president, said: "These two events give our members the opportunity to get to know our neighbours down river, enjoy the sights of London from a maritime angle, enjoy two fun weekends, and re-connect our club with the river that runs past the clubhouse, to add to our other activities."
