The Queen's Diamond Jubillee celebrations next year, during which there will be a flotilla sailing up the Thames, is an opportunity for all members to enjoy the spectacular setting of the Club. You simply will not get a better seat than on the terrace outside the Club - weekend of June 2nd - 5th, put it in your diaries now and come and celebrate with us.

Don't put away your Union Flags yet! To mark 60 years of the Queen’s reign the Diamond Jubilee will take place in 2012. A special four-day Jubilee weekend, 2 – 5 June 2012, will provide an opportunity for communities to come together to celebrate and commemorate the events of the last 60 years.

The Queen will sail down the Thames in a gold encrusted royal barge at the head of an unprecedented flotilla of up to a thousand boats, as part of a glittering water pageant to celebrate her Diamond Jubilee. The 'once in a lifetime' event - complete with fireworks and water cannons - will be the highlight of an extended weekend of events to mark the monarch's 60 years on the throne. It is set to be the most extravagant spectacle staged on this historic waterway since the reign of Charles II.

The Club hopes to have the historic vessel Sheemaun, owned by Rodney Pell in the flotilla and Club president, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, to be the figurehead (is that literal or figurative?). Whatever happens, the Clubhouse will be the prime spot of real estate to watch this fantastic occasion. The late May bank holiday has been put back to Monday 4 June and an additional Jubilee bank holiday will be held on Tuesday 5 June. The extra bank holiday will also apply in Scotland (unless they become independent first!).

Make a note in your diaries now and make sure you store those Union Flags safely 'til then.
