Solent sailors in the City - 25th March

Over 30 people gathered at the Club on Thursday 25th March evening to meet, have a drink and mingle. No it wasn't speed dating - it was Solent Sailors in the City, a LinkedIn group which was only established last October and already has over 200 members signed up.
A dozen mostly younger LSC members were on hand to welcome them. Kate Newman was 'host' for the evening. The Solent Sailors are a lively bunch of mostly City professionals many with an interest in racing.
Richard Tricker is 'convenor' of the group. There were a number of 707 sailors and numerous J boat sailors as well as members of the crews of larger competitive yachts. Inshore and offshore racing were both favoured topics.
Solent Sailors in the City is a virtual club. It exists as a group on Linked-In and on Facebook and there is lively conversation in both fora. Several LSC members are also members of SSiC and it was good to see a number of past LSC members attending who had not found their style of sailing and socialising at the Club or for whom it had become too expensive.
A good time was had by all and there may be some sailing as a result. A group of 20 or so headed off for a curry. Next month's meeting will be at RORC (where LSC members will be welcome if they join the group), and they'll be coming back to the Little Ship Club again in May. Members are welcome to join up, particularly if they are interested in inshore racing in the Solent. See www.linkedin.co.uk for further details.
