"Spitfires of the Sea" saved by the National Heritage Memorial Fund

In November last year, Robin Clabburn gave a fantastically interesting talk about his experience of restoring historical vessels. A packed library was treated to "before" and "after" pictures of vessels such as HSL 102, (which had been re-launched by Her Majesty Queen Elisabeth the Queen Mother after her restoration), and MGB 81.
At that time, these wonderful pieces of history, who had saved so many lives, faced an uncertain future. However, it was announced today that the NHMF had provided the funds to enable the Portsmouth Naval Base Property to purchase the two boats, and they are now on display at Gunwharf Quays Marina (Portsmouth).
