Everywhere you go… always take the Little Ship Club with you.

The sailing season has started and many of you have been out and about already.

The Little Ship Club organises many rallies, fast cruises and events, but we are conscious that our members also go to events organised by other organisations (*gasp*). Given that the LSC is a club with members (and their boats) spread far and wide, we would like to see if there is any possibility in other LSC members joining in with such events. If you have any information about events that you are attending which other LSC members can attend (either through you or independently), this would be much appreciated by the Sail & Power Committee.

As the title of the article says, we encourage all boat owners (and indeed those that are chartering too) to think about the motto: Everywhere you go – always take the LSC with you! When joining a rally or regatta which is not LSC organised, is there a way (within reason) in which you can help spread the word about the Little Ship Club and encourage others to join?

You could do this simply by asking other LSC members to join in events that you are taking part in. Or why not promote the LSC more directly by taking one of our battle flags, banners or dodgers to exhibit whilst at the event? Or you could have take a few leaflets to hand out.

Of course the reciprocal is also true, and we would be delighted if you wanted to bring along potential new members to LSC events so they can get a ‘taster’ of what it would be like to be a member.

While we would clearly not suggest that you flaunt LSC materials at rallies organised by fellow sailing clubs, this may well be acceptable at those events which are more general in nature (for example regattas organised by industry organisations, such as Little Britain, or those which are organised independently). If you have information about events you are attending (or which could be attended by LSC members), please email the Sail & Power Committee (or drop a short note into the office) outlining the type of event and if there are any known entry requirements.

This year, the Little Ship Club’s efforts are focused on bringing new members into the club, and promoting the Little Ship Club amongst fellow sailors. You’ll have noticed a few of the initiatives, such as the continued attendance at the London Boat Show as well as at Southampton again, the car (or boat) stickers, and the petition against the red-diesel legislation!

The request for Little Ship Club members to help promote the LSC by being more prominent at events (such as through taking a battle flag, banner or ‘dodger’) should be seen in a similar vein – as more people promote the club and what it stands for we hope to generate greater interest from potential new members and encourage more to join.

We are currently in the process of ordering more flags and banners – if you are interested in buying one for your personal use (a small number will also be available through the club office for use by rally organisers), please contact sailandpower@littleshipclub.co.uk.

And remember – "always take the LSC with you"!
