THE HOUSEBOAT COMMUNITIES OF LONDON’S DOCKS

Niki Gorick, who presented her photographic record “Faith in the City of London” at our Club Night of 16th February, is looking for help with contacts, information and/or pointers for her next photographic project focusing on the different houseboat communities of London's docks.

Niki writes: “Just to give some background, The City of London Corporation are keen to mark the 40th anniversary of the beginning of the Docklands redevelopment in their 'From Dome to Dome' City and Docklands festival in 2023.  For this, I'm interested in capturing the houseboat communities of Greenland and South Docks, as well as those at St. Katharine Docks and Blackwall Basin.  As you may know, each of these are run by different organisations and have contrasting characters.  It's fascinating to see how these old dock areas have been transformed from once-working and then derelict areas into thriving communities in just 40 years.  The stretch of Thames between the City and Greenwich certainly has a very different vibe to 40 years ago when the Docklands Redevelopment Company started up.”
