Extreme Sailing Series Act 5, Cowes has reached the penultimate day six in which The Wave, Muscat has managed to hold on to their lead. In the late afternoon, the wind dropped below twenty knots and the turning tide flattened out the sea to allow racing to begin. Perhaps the greatest surprise given the damp overcast weather was the huge turn-out of spectators

At the end of another glorious day’s racing at Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week Tina Scott was crowned as winner of the Ladies Day trophy. As XOD class secretary she has been a major force in the organisation of the fleet’s centenary celebrations, including the 145-boat fleet competing this week.

After the drama and action-packed first four days of Act 5 from Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week, the breezy conditions that cart-wheeled the Extreme 40 Aberdeen Asset Management yesterday, eased off today at the halfway stage of the UK round of the 2011 Extreme Sailing Series™.

Fantastic conditions for the second day of Act 5, Cowes. The Extreme Sailing Series famous for attracting huge crowds, and today they poured to the shoreside in their thousands to catch the action. And in the big breeze, there was plenty of it - nose-dives, pitch poles, spray everywhere and one BIG collision between Artemis Racing and Groupe Edmond de Rothschild.

The second day of Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week was blessed with bright sun and strong winds, giving competitors a fresh set of challenges after the opening day’s light airs.

Renowned for adrenalin-fuelled
stadium sailing, 12 teams lined up for the start and delivered nothing less
in front of huge crowds. For the 12 skippers it was an opening salvo of
close calls, nose-dives and near misses. At the end of the day it was the
French team Groupe Edmond de Rothschild who were on top of the leaderboard. With plenty of more breeze to come this was just the start of what promises to be an epic week.
