Breakout Cruise - Solent to Weymouth Weds 15 -22 July
There will be no formal events and we plan a mixture of anchoring, marinas or picking up moorings in attractive places. For this to work well your dinghy and outboard will need to be working to enjoy what we have in mind. Join us for the whole week or come and go as best suits you, to see another LSC burgee is always a pleasure.
The programme is available as a PDF document on the right.
Day 1 Wednesday 15th July 2020
Poole Quay Boat Haven
HW Portsmouth 07.40 BST HW Dover 07.34 BST
We meet to start our time together in Poole Quay Boat Haven. Berths will be reserved if sufficient notice is given. Lunch at the RNLI Headquarters (if open) for those who arrive early. Supper on board or eat out if restaurants are open.
For berthing instructions call the Marina on Channel 80 when within radio contact or phone 01202 649488. Please settle marina fees direct. Rally discount may be possible.
Day 2 Thursday 16th July 2020
Explore Poole Harbour
HW Portsmouth 09.06 BST HW Dover 08.35 BST
We leave Poole and sail round to Goathorn Point or Pottery Pier (within the Harbour) and anchor up for the night. We take a dinghy ride across to Brownsea Island, go ashore from the beach and take a walk and do some squirrel watching. Eat on board or share meals. For those with deep keels this may not be an option, but bottom is soft so worth a try, local knowledge useful. If in doubt remain in Poole Marina and take the ferry to Brownsea Island or anchor in Studland Bay. Skipper’s decision.
Day 3 Friday 17th July 2020
Studland Bay or Swanage
HW Portsmouth 10.10 BST HW Dover 09.27 BST
We leave Poole Harbour and sail round to either Studland Bay and anchor for the night or make passage around Old Harry and pick up moorings in Swanage Bay. We go ashore for a walk and a drink in the Sailing Club if it is open. Eat on board or share meals.
Note: Swanage Bay is open to the east so can be uncomfortable, if so, remain in Studland Bay.
Day 4 Saturday 18th July 2020
Studland Bay or Swanage
HW Portsmouth 10.59 HW Dover 10.14 BST
We go to or stay in Swanage Bay and take a train ride on the Heritage Railway to Wareham (if open) or wander around the pretty town of Swanage. Eat on board or share meals.
Day 5 Sunday 19th July 2020
Passage to Weymouth
HW Plymouth 05.32 BST
Today we will take the tide to Weymouth (23 nm), passing St Albans Head (we love the inside passage) and follow the Jurassic coast and pick up a dinosaur on the way. Take pontoon moorings on Weymouth’s Custom House Quay. Best fish and chips on the south coast (subject to Covid) and interesting walks around the old town.
For berthing instructions call the HM on Channel 80, no reservations possible.
West going tide at St Albans head starts at HW Plymouth +0525
Note: Make sure the ranges are not firing
Day 6 Monday 20th July 2020
HW Portland 07.23 BST HW Dover 11.39
Today we will take a bus ride either to the Swan Conservancy on Chesil Beach or to marvel at the Portland over-falls from high on the headland. Buy yourself some Portland Stone if you can carry it! Eat on board or share meals.
Day 7 Tuesday 21st July 2020
HW Portland 08.10 BST HW Dover 12.20
Lay day in Weymouth to recover from the stressful sailing that we have had getting here or take the other bus ride. At 18.00 a Pontoon get together then eat on board, share meals or have yet another portion of fish and chips.
Day 8 Wednesday 22nd July 2020
Cruise in company ends
HW Portland 08.57 BST HW Dover 13.01BST HW Plymouth 07.52 BST
