We will visit two attractive local locations with scope for either adding a short fast cruise or moving on to other places if the weather and demand permit. We are assured of moorings in the Beaulieu River, berths at Island Harbour and overspill space is also usually available on the Folly pontoons.

If you do not have a dinghy, you can easily share with those who have.

Covid restrictions are likely to remain in place so skippers will need to check the rules as to crew restrictions.

Skippers who cannot reach Beaulieu on Friday afternoon will be very welcome to join on Saturday with the afternoon tide.

A quiz and a couple of other distractions will be arranged to add interest to your weekend.

Day 1                 Friday 30th April 2021

Gather in the Beaulieu River at Gins Farm the clubhouse of the Royal Southampton Yacht Club.

Welcome to the Rally www.RSYC.org.uk 02380 223 352

HW Portsmouth 14.35 BST

HW Cowes 14.11 BST

Call Sea Echo on Channel 77 or the LSC Commodore on 07778390815

The Commodore has reserved space on the Gins Farm jetty for 2 boats with walk ashore. There are some visitors swinging moorings on a first to arrive basis and bookable spaces in the recently upgraded marina at Bucklers Hard. www.beaulieuriver.co.uk 01590 616 200  Anchoring is allowed between piles 20 and 22. Eat on board or go ashore. RSYC Gins to eat outside up to 1900. If in the marina the Master Builder serves food until 2100 also al fresco and a new outside pop-up bar opens this day.

Day 2                 Saturday 1st May 2021

Lay day in the Beaulieu River and Beaulieu Village. Rope throwing practice to lasso a cleat might be arranged.

HW Portsmouth 15.36 BST

HW Cowes 15.16 BST

The options today are a water taxi ride up to Bucklers Hard (Harbour Master on 01590616200 or Ch 68) and a stroll up to the Master Builders PH or, for the more adventurous, a dinghy ride with the tide up to Bailey’s Hard for lunch at Fairweather’s Garden Centre in the Beaulieu Village High Street. Catch the ebb back to Gins where we will have a socially distanced pontoon party and at 1930 eat at the RSYC pizza oven (not included in rally fee) with seating outside reserved. A limited menu from the Clubhouse may also be available if prebooked.

Day 3               Sunday 2nd May 2021

Beaulieu River to Island Harbour Marina (half a mile beyond the Folly Inn PH, Medina River) with the possibility of a stop in Osbourne Bay for lunch followed by a short fast cruise around the cans whilst waiting for the tide. 01983 539994 www.island-harbour.co.uk

HW Portsmouth 16.45 BST

HW Cowes 15.37 BST

Island Harbour is one of the Solent’s best kept secrets and the upper reaches of the Medina are beautiful. The marina is usually accessible to 2.00m draft yachts at around at least HW +1 to -1. Call the marina on Ch 80 who will give you lock instructions and depths of water in the river and over the lock cill. For those not wishing to do that, moor up at the Folly Inn where there is usually space available and walk across the fields to Island Harbour (about half a mile), or take the ferry or use your own dinghy. Berths have been reserved in Island Harbour. We will BBQ in the evening, bring your own food, or eat at the Breeze Restaurant which will be open for eating outside with choice of menus. The Breeze will be busy so it will be necessary to book in advance (Breeze Restaurant 01983 533388). Pre-supper wine and nibbles will be provided. (Folly Launch Ch.72 or 07884 400046 or Folly Waterbus 07974 864627).

Day 4               Monday 3rd May 2021

Island Harbour Marina or Folly Pontoon

HW Portsmouth 17.49 BST

HW Cowes 16.43 BST

Take a walk up the river path to Newport or down the river to the Folly. Points of interest are the Spice Bus (used in the Spice Girls film, we are told!) and the wreck of the Ryde paddle steamer which is unlikely to ever sail again. A quick inspection will confirm that to be the case. Well equipped chandlery with very reasonable prices and discounts for LSC members.

Wait for the afternoon tide to return to home ports.

Rally Fee:  £20.00 per person

The rally fee will include organisation of the rally, nibbles wine or beer, hire of the BBQ.

The organisers have made limited reservations at Island Harbour, first come first served basis, skippers to settle their own marina fees.
