Cowes Week Day 1 roundup

This year's first start saw the nine Extreme 40s competing in the Extreme Sailing Series at Cowes on the Royal Yacht Squadron line for their first long-distance race, reports Rupert Holmes from Cowes Week. In light airs, with insufficient wind for these high-adrenaline machines to fly a hull, and a building flood tide, the fleet lined up heading inshore on starboard tack 20 seconds before the gun.

Armel Le Cléac'h takes Solitaire stage 1

Armel Le Cléac'h (Brit Air) arrived in Gijon at 1:14 am Saturday, 31 July thus winning stage 1 of La Solitaire du Figaro.

Ireland 2010 part 3

Sunday 11 July dawned less wet than the day before - it could hardly have been otherwise - and it was decision time about the crossing back to Scilly.  The choice boiled down to going straight away and aiming to get to shelter in New Grimsby Sound before strong easterlies arrived, or waiting for an unknown time for the depressions to pass.  

JOG Salona Illingworth Challenge Cowes - La Trinite Race

In an emminently credible result Charles Whittam's Juno is provisionally placed 4th in Class 4 beating Cathy Claydon's Arcona 37 Arcsine into 5th place. Arcsine is the boat to beat for Juno as Arcsine is lying third in the offshore series to Juno's 4th.
