Pictures of Zeeland in words and images
Alja Schmidt-van Dorp has kindly contributed this brief introduction to Zeeland. To get a visual flavour, here are some links to the Pictures of Holland website as well.
Zeeland 2012 - when and where
Some of you have been asking "what is the programme for the Zeeland Cruise?" - well the answer is that the details are still being worked out by our dedicated cruise planners. However, we do have an intended itinerary and the programme will look something like this:

Juno qualifies for Fastnet
Following her finish in the RORC St Malo race Juno and her crew have completed all the pre-entry requirements for the 2011 Rolex Fastnet Race.

The Good Ship Lazy Life to Brittany
The aim of the cruise was to get to South Brittany -and preferably back - starting in late June. In fact it started ominously with a last minute request from Hunter for me to get "Lots More Flares". Was this Precognition as in Minority Report?

Death of Chris Tiff
It is with great regret that I announce the death of Chris Tiff on Monday 11th July at the age of 53. Chris had been a member of the Club only from 2007 but had endeared himself to many members with his generosity and his somewhat larger than life character - he will be sadly missed.
Reviewers required
We need some more volunteers to write book reviews. We try to review each new book before we put it on the shelves. So if you have written a review for us before, please email librarian@littleshipclub.co.uk or pop into the Library on a Tuesday evening. We have about a dozen books that we would like reviewed. They nearly all have some practical application for the keen sailor or are accounts of some dramatic moment in the history of the sea.

New data shows complex tidal influences for Cowes Week
A recently-developed, high-resolution tidal model for the Solent and UK south coast has revealed the complexity of tidal streams and currents in this competitive racing area. See video sequences here.

QT Cup: No wind in Cowes until 1400
The first day of the Coutts Quarter Ton Cup on Monday, 11 July, dawned bright and clear but with an almost total absence of the most necessary ingredient for a regatta, wind.

Normandy (or Nearly Devon) rally
First week: a wash out. Too much of any weather you can think of.
It was with some gloom on my part that the start of Ronhildas Normandy rally approached with forecasts for high winds, fog and rough seas. All hopes of getting to St Valery sur Somme seemed doomed for another year by the Thursday and I delayed my first batch of crew coming down to join with me till Saturday evening. Saturday indeed was a windy wash out and Sunday was the same so we stayed in Chichester Marina.

Beautiful Brightlingsea in the sunshine
On Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 June, 17 boats and 51 people met for the annual Brightlingsea Rally. Sue Cossell and Richard Keen organised another superb and convivial event, writes Neil Stuart. This year it was a joint rally – the Little Ship Club was joined by the Maldon Little Ship Club, which formed as a breakaway group from the LSC in 1927, and the Narrow Seas Sailing Club, which did likewise in 1932. Gathering at the Colne Sailing Club, where several founding members of the LSC also belonged and much of the early history of our club took place, gave the event a special resonance.

Brittany - cruise dinner, prizes, strong winds
Planned timed passages have been difficult to organise with the fleet so spread out, so prizes were awarded for the most dramatic incident, the longest passages, the most ports visited, and Crunchie bars for various mishaps.
Fastnet: past winners return - it takes all sorts to make a Fastnet
Piet Vroon, skipper of Ker 46 Tonnerre de Breskens has been racing with the Royal Ocean Racing Club since the 1950's and at 81 years young, he is probably the oldest competitor in the race. Jean-Yves Chateau will be racing again this year in Class Four. Chateau is one of only three sailors from France that have lifted the Fastnet Trophy, winning with his Nicholson 33, Iromiguy in 2005.

Gold Silver Bronze for GBR
There was no racing but still plenty to talk about on the final day of the 2011 IFDS Worlds as the Netherlands, Great Britain and Israel walked away with the top prizes after six days of fierce competition. Team GBR took a gold in the Skud, silver in the Sonar and Bronze in the 2.4mR
